re/vision re/visited is a peer-to-peer review group at the RI Center for Photographic Arts, started during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The group includes Angela C. Brown, Bill Clark, David DeMelim, Deb Ehrens and Keith Prue. In the beginning the group met weekly on Zoom to stay connected, to provide an incentive to stay active, and find new directions to explore as travel restrictions halted most ongoing projects. Five years later, they continue to meet bi-weekly on Zoom with alternating in person meetings as schedules allow.
This exhibition revisits work first produced for a portfolio project at the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts in April 2021 but focuses on their shared experience. The exhibit includes new work and new ways of thinking about previously produced work, arrived at through sharing and collaboration make for a unique exhibition. The work presented reflects the ethos and vision of each individual member, made stronger by the support and feedback of all the participants.

Primarily self-taught, Angela C. Brown’s photographic practice explores the gamut of experiences and photographic techniques. Both her series work and portraits have been honored and exhibited internationally at the Barcelona Foto Biennale in Spain and published online in Rolling Stone and the Guardian. Her landscapes and botanicals have been honored and exhibited in the SoHo Photo Gallery in New York City, the Providence Art Club, The Griffin Museum, the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, RI Center for Photographic Arts, and the Provincetown Commons. She is also a recipient of an OCARC Artist Residency in the historic Provincetown dune shacks. In her most recent exhibitions, she has been sharing work from the artist residency and other Cape Cod experiences, as well as exploring a wide range of photographic printing. She shoots, develops, and prints film, digital, old, and new … fitting the subject matter with the best combination of techniques to achieve her desired experience.

Photographer Bill Clark has chosen to explore the infinite, personal reality and ambiguity of the abstract. He seeks to engage the viewer by creating an interactive experience, inviting each of us to bring our unique perspective and interpretation to the work. After a successful career of working closely with designers, Clark keeps his studio outside of Providence, RI, where he works as a professional photographer and calligrapher. Clark’s work has been exhibited in area galleries and museums and is displayed in a number of private collections, and businesses across the country.

David DeMelim is an artist, educator, and Managing Director of the RI Center for Photographic Arts. As a printmaker and photographer, David has been involved with computer generated graphics for decades, predating the initial releases of Digital Darkroom and Photoshop. This early involvement with technology has influenced both his artistic passions and his professional path.

Yet, born 50 years earlier, he would have been a painter. David maintains an active photographic practice, and related graphic design services. He exhibits his work both nationally and internationally. The Rites of Memory, a solo exhibition of his work exploring memory is currently traveling through Cuba.

Deb Ehrens embraces age-old artisan techniques and modern digital tools in her image-making. She is an out-of-the-box thinker who pushes the boundaries of materials and processes to create a unique look. Although largely self-taught, an ongoing mentorship with painter Deborah Quinn-Munson has been instrumental in helping Ehrens develop her artistic eye. She has also taken classes at RISD and Maine Media College. Deb is an Elected Artist of Art League RI, a Juried Artist Member of the Cape Cod Art Center and Exhibiting Member of the RI Center for Photographic Arts.
A resident of Dartmouth, MA, Deb has been a solo and featured artist at galleries throughout the region and participated in numerous national juried exhibits. Her award-winning images are held in private and corporate collections.
